Orange Blossom Special

orange-blossom-pilsner-logo.jpgOrange Blossom Pilsner was born in Orlando Fl. Tom Moench, the man behind Orange Blossom Pilsner, like most of us is obsessed with beer. I mean he is obsessed with the making of a world class beer. The year was 1978. President Carter legalized home brewing. Young Tom was not of legal age started to buy, brewing his own.
At 18 years old Tom could not legally buy beer but he had figured out that it was not illegal to purchase the ingredients (you got to love the way Tom thinks) and the brew master was born. After two years and many tries in his two car garage and self education on the fine art of beer making Tom came up with a few master pieces. One being the “Orange Blossom Pilsner”. The first beer Tom made commercially was toasted coconut porter, I have yet to sample this one. But the beer everybody loved from his home brewing days was the orange blossom honey beer. Moench put a half gallon of orange blossom honey in every keg. The yeast consumes the sugar in the honey so it isn’t overly sweet. Its crisp and refreshing, but it has a honey note. The beer has a solid middle without the heavy bottom. The sweetness is subtle with just a hint of orange. “People think we put orange peels in the beer, but the taste comes from the honey” Moench explains. Orange Blossom Pilsner is proud to boost of it 2005 bronze medal at the Great American Beer Festival.
